Welcome to Palmer Commons Art Collection

Palmer Commons features a new and different exhibit every month in its gallery and lounge space, Windows Lounge, on the third floor. Each exhibit offers a new look at our at art collection along with a statement to elaborate upon the new interpretation.

These exhibits allow us to group together many different pieces to highlight themes within our collection, display timely works of art, or show those works we are able to host briefly.

Past exhibits have included cultural commentary work by Art & Design students, woodcuts and lino cuts, black and white photography, and oil paintings.

Paula Schubatis Installation

Palmer Commons is pleased to again demonstrate our role as an intersection of the Sciences and the Arts with the recent installation of Dinoflagellate Dreams by Paula Schubatis. Ms. Schubatis is a Junior in the School of Art and Design studying fiber arts and painting and is interested in analyzing the convergence of the analytical and spiritual realms through her work.

For this installation, Ms. Schubatis capitalized on the visual similarities between Dinoflagellates, a type of unicellular plankton, and the Native American dream catcher. The work consists of multiple circular screens made of fabric and different appliqués, allowing light to filter through. Dinoflagellate Dreams is displayed in Glass House Café. We invite you to come over to Palmer Commons, have a cup of coffee and enjoy the new installation!
