Change to Payment Method for Local Restaurant Purchases and Event Catering
Beginning January 1, 2027, the University of Michigan will implement a change in how local restaurant purchases and event catering orders are paid. As part of U-M’s ongoing efforts to streamline the payment process and strengthen financial controls, we will transition to the exclusive use of U-M Purchasing Cards (PCards) for these transactions.
To ensure a smooth transition for both suppliers and U-M units, this change will be phased in over several months.
What’s Changing & How It Impacts Your Unit:

Effective June 30, 2026:
- U-M shortcodes will no longer be accepted for restaurant purchases.
This only affects future orders with Panera, Pizza House.
MCatering, Katherine’s & Zingerman's will continue to accept shortcodes.

Zero Waste Event
A zero waste event works to reduce, recycle and compost as much as possible with the goal to achieve as much waste diversion from the landfill as possible. Interest and commitment to composting at campus events is becoming increasingly popular among students, faculty and staff.
