Palmer Commons

Palmer Commons offers flexible conference and meeting space, accommodating up to 274 people.

Palmer Commons is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and all of our event spaces are ADA accessible.

The conference areas are on the fourth through sixth floors of the building, one flight above the main Palmer Commons entrance and the Windows Room.

On the fourth floor is the 140-seat auditorium Forum Hall, a 1400- square-foot atrium perfect for receptions, and the 3200-square-foot Great Lakes Room, a divisible multipurpose room that can be used for many different functions.

On the fifth floor you'll find an 800-square-foot atrium that can be used for receptions.

The sixth floor has five exquisite boardrooms that seat 14-18 people each, and a 1000-square-foot atrium that can accommodate 100 for receptions.

Cancellations

Student organizations, University Departments and commercial groups will be held responsible for all charges incurred as a result of any commitments made to facilitate the event.


Dance party policy

Dances and parties, which take place in University facilities, are an important part of campus life because they offer the opportunity for members of the University community to socialize, discover, and celebrate together. Sponsoring organization members, organization advisors, and University staff share in the responsibility to ensure that these activities are well planned, enjoyable, safe, and reflective of the tradition of excellence associated with the University of Michigan. Any person, behavior, or action should reflect our community values.

Exhibit session guidelines

Exhibits can be set up in the Great Lakes Ballroom, Atrium 4 and Atrium 5. A total number of 48 exhibits can be set up in Great Lakes with an additional 25 exhibits setup in Atrium 4. In Atrium 4, all exhibit tables must be flush with the exterior windows. The space will not accommodate for anyone standing behind the table.

Poster session guidelines

Poster sessions can be set up in the Great Lakes Ballroom, Atrium 4 and 5. A total number of 47 posters can be set up in Great Lakes with an additional 25 posters setup in Atrium 4. This does not account for any food and beverage station table needs. Should you have more posters than we have space to display them, setup adjustments will need to occur. View an example poster session setup.

Alcohol guidelines

Palmer Commons does not hold a liquor license. However, per University policy, only Palmer Commons personnel or their designates are authorized to dispense alcohol. Palmer Commons is limited to offering alcoholic beverage service to events scheduled by:


Audio/visual services

Palmer Commons offers state-of-the-art audio/visual services. Additionally, Palmer Commons employs an experienced technical support staff to help with all your needs.


Windows Lounge

Windows Lounge is located on the 3rd floor of Palmer Commons and serves as a social meeting place for students, faculty, staff and university guests. Furnished with couches, chairs, booths, printers and a copy machine, it's a perfect place to drop in, relax, study or catch up with friends.

Plaza Room

Plaza Room is a computer-aided boardroom/lab adjacent to Palmer Commons' main lobby located on the third floor. With an overhead projector, a twenty-seat boardroom table and fifteen stations featuring PC and Mac terminals, this room is perfect for boardroom-style meetings or training sessions.

Great Lakes Room

The Great Lakes Room is a 3200-square-foot divisible multipurpose room. It accommodates up to 224 seats for meals and 300 seats for auditorium style events. The 30-foot windows in the surrounding atrium afford a beautiful view of Palmer Field and the architecture of the Hill Area buildings.

Boardrooms

There are five boardrooms in Palmer Commons. Boardrooms 1-4 seat fifteen people. Boardroom 5 seats twenty. The rooms make an excellent place for a smaller meeting.

All boardrooms include a dry erase blackboard and several Ethernet jacks.

Atriums

The atriums of Palmer Commons are located on the fourth through sixth floor. They possess a stunning view of the architecture of the Hill area of campus. Additionally, the atriums frequently have artwork from local artists on display. These qualities make Palmer Commons' atriums perfect for a little extra space during a reception.
